Whitney McVeigh (b. 1968) is an American born artist, now living and working in London.
McVeigh works with a variety of media, but is best known for her figurative works on paper. She has exhibited widely throughout Europe, Asia and Africa.
Using travel as her greatest muse, McVeigh’s work is informed by notions of transcendence evoking discoveries of the psyche. Her monoprints and ink paintings occupy undiscovered truths of the subconscious, blurring the lines between figuration and abstraction.
In early 2011, McVeigh spent time making monotypes at David Krut Workshop's Art on Main location. The prints that emerged from her time at DKW celebrate the delicacy of medium, as well as the asian papers on which they were printed, while thematically they consider the vulnerability of the excavation sites at the "Cradle of Humankind," in Magaliesberg, South Africa. While in South Africa, McVeigh had two solo exhibitions, exhibiting at Nirox Projects, Johannesburg and Smac Gallery, Cape Town. McVeigh currently has work in a group show at Mimmo Scognamiglio in Milan which continues through until October 31, 2011.
An exhibition of Whitney McVeigh's paintings, drawings and prints was held at David Krut Projects, New York, October 27 - December 17, 2011.
