Purnaa Deb “A Tale Of Quests” Opening Amé Snyman | May 9, 2018 On Thursday 3 May we opened Purnaa Deb’s “A Tale Of Quests” to a much enthused crowd. Purnaa presented a lovely occasion for the opening with a selected playlist. A highlight of the night was her live-painting beside her five-piece “Bread, Butter And A Desire”. The elaborate live-painting in the space became an instance whereby the artist could further elaborate on the historical and cultural contexts that inform the works in the show. While painting, Deb spoke about the links between painting and folkloric ritual storytelling in India. She discussed the importance of painting and different mediums as parts of cultural practice in the way of rites of passage and the fulfillment of desires.
